Danielson Rubric Domains
Domain 1: Planning & Preparation
Domain 2: Classroom Environment
Domain 3: Instruction
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities

Domains 1 and 4 require cumulative evaluation throughout the year, recognizing that planning abilities and professional responsibilities develop over time and cannot be fully assessed in single observation sessions. This approach ensures fair and complete evaluation of all aspects of teaching performance.
Observation Go to Guide by Position
The APPR procedures outlines in this document represent a comprehensive, research-based approach to teacher evaluation that balances accountability with professional growth. Together, in alignment with Lackawanna's Vision and Instructional Priorities we will be able to enhance the student and staff experience for all.
Vision and Instructional Priorities
In the Lackawanna City School District, we believe that every student is capable of excellence when instruction is intentionally Grade-Level, Engaging, Affirming, and Meaningful. This vision guides our daily practice and anchors our shared responsibility to foster equity, opportunity, and achievement for every child in Lackawanna.
Core Instructional Commitments:
  • We are committed to providing all learners with rigorous, standard-aligned content that challenges and empowers them to thrive academically and personally.
  • Our classrooms foster deep curiosity and connection through lessons that are relevant, joyful, and culturally responsive.
  • We honor and affirm each student's unique identity, experiences, and voice—ensuring all students feel seen, valued, and inspired.
  • Through meaningful learning experiences, we equip students with critical thinking skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose that extends beyond the school walls.
We will realize this vision by:
  • Providing grade-level instruction that challenges all students with complex texts, tasks, and discourse, supported by just-in-time scaffolds rather than lowered expectations.
  • Designing learning experiences that are engaging, intellectually rich, and connected to students’ lives, interests, and communities.
  • Affirming the identities of all learners by ensuring curriculum materials, teaching practices, and classroom culture reflect the diversity, strengths, and voices of our students.
  • Making learning meaningful by connecting academic content to real-world issues, student agency, and culturally sustaining practices that prepare students for lifelong learning and civic participation.
